girl so in love is an AMAZING IMMACULATE album omggg. i have so much to share abt this. here are my thoughts:
this album was such an immaculate experience for me. when olivia explained the albums concept before the release, i was literally jaw-dropped bc why is that my EXACT experience. these pop girls have a way of knowing my exact situations. listening to it for the first time was right when it came out. i like to watch the lyric videos if there were any released, and for this album, the lyric videos were SO cute and totally immersed me into the realm of the music.

purple: this was actually my initial favourite after listening to the album for the first time. guys. when i say this song is written about me I MEAN IT SO HARD. you don’t understand i cried SO HARD at the end of this song. i was watching the lyric video and when her dress turned black.. omg i was so scared. and then the outro came. the way she sings “melt with you till it all turns bllaaaackkkkk melt with you till i just feel saaaad……” omg i never cry at songs and that made me hysterically sob for a while. but the song as a whole is such a beautiful concept. like the foreshadowing that it’s a bad relationship omggg. “and we fight over who im hanging out with like a real couple”. the production on this song is so interesting: i love when artists make the drums kinda sound like a lofi beat ykwim? also i love how the production opens up for the second verse. the single note piano is such a great addition. and right before the outro when the guitar is going wuhwuhwuhWUARRRwuhwuhwuhWUARRR and she’s singing “i see the world in i see the world in purrrrplleeee” UGH NEED IT IN MY VEINNSSSS. lowkey considered putting this song at 2.. ugh i still dk.
the cure: unfortunately, a single will always be ranked a little lower on my rankings. but this song is amazing. genuinely such a cool concept and the “im unraveeeeledd (im unravelledd) im unravelledddd (IM UNRAVELEDDD) IS SO GOOD. my fav part of the whole song. actually, no, my favourite part of the song is the outro. THE VIOLINS OMG. yk im a sucker for an orchestra in a song since i play violin. and that outro is the most beautiful thing ive ever heard in my life. it makes me tear up sometimes bc its so beautiful istg
honeybee: alright guys the hate on this is actually absurd. “baby boy, honeybee…” why do yall have such a problem with that lyric bsfr :( this song is BEAUTIFUL. it stuck out to me immediately when hearing it for the first time. the beautiful piano throughout the entire song is amazing. the VIOLINS. again with the violin thing but they’re so cool. in the violin interlude of the song, they’re playing a really unique sound that honestly reminds me of the sound of bees. lmk if you know what im talking abt rn.. CONANS VOCALSSSASKDFHAIW i love i love i love i love. one of my favourite parts of the song. they sound so… nostalgic in a way. like a memory in the background. the harmonies are splendid and he’s using his found heaven voice which is always 10/10 so i love this song. also, it’s just a classic, beautiful love song. the lyrics dont get me started. “i hope i never see what your face looks like going / a face i swear that i could spend my whole life knowing / heres to hoping” STOP. and what honestly sold me entirely on this song and bumped it up to first favourite is “but even when im quiet … i promise” OMGOMGOMG you guys dont understand my love for this part. THE ILY WAS CUTOUT BC SHES QUIET IM SOBINGGGG. and in that silence, theres violins and conans vocals and it literally makes me ascend. i also learned this entire song on piano so yayayay! never could make me hate this song, sorry not sorry
begged: i hate to put this song so low.. all i wanna say about this one is i loooove the harmonies. “cliiiing toooo hopppee likkke carreeelesssss melt awaaayyyy inn aaa foooountaaaain waiting on my luck to chaaaangee” also i love the lyric “fight back the waves of a static lovers’ dread”. the guitar is so addictive and so gorgeous love love love
less: oh okay so tear out my heart and break it into a million pieces cool cool cooool. the piano for this is SO GORGEOUS i cant even put it into words. i learned this on piano a day after release :) i cant explain the feeling i get when the second chorus ends and we get the little piano interlude. that mini piano solo makes me tear up almost every time. it just feels so beautiful and feels like it’s seeping into my bones in the best way. and don’t even start me on the lyrics.. i don’t wanna talk about it.
cigarette smoke: everyone says less is the saddest song on the album, but i honestly think it’s cigarette smoke. right when i hear that creepy-ish intro that turns into the guitar, tears are already streaming down my face. the production of this one is.. so perfect. it literally feels like if heartbreak were a sound. like if regret were a sound. olivia really took all the sad feelings in the entire world and mixed it into this song. i don’t know why, but the lyrics “it’s a real quiet house with the shower left on / five beers in the fridge and the second car’s gone” makes me sick. it just has this realism of sickening dread. the begged AND honeybee reference.. i actually can’t. olivia that was NOT needed. when the bridge comes and she’s singing “its bone dry, bitter and hollow..” i envision a couple fighting back and forth as both the production AND vocals get louder. like an argument. the desperation in her voice as she sings “why’d i try at all?” makes my stomach churn. it’s like a reflection on the entire album: the complete and absolute love she felt melted into nothingness and she asks herself why she try’d at all at love. omg. and finally, my favourite part of the song, when she’s singing “the memories go dark… go dark.. go dark.” i could write essays and essays on this. the production slowly fades (goes dark, some would say) but i notice her vocals stay at the same volume.. it just hits me in an inexplicable way. this song feels like when you’ve just cried your entire eyes out, you’re lying in bed staring at the ceiling (wwwm ref) and having those little post-cry hiccups while feeling hopeless. god i hate this song. god i love this song.
maggots for brains: the production on this is soooo cool it reminds me of the postal service (really niche ik) and the melody is so addicting. MY day was so MUNdane i dont THINK i left the house”. also that part where she’s singing the chorus the last time and goes “and the colours are ALL FLAAAT!” and then “and ive got MAggots for BRA-A-AINS” scratches my brain so goooood. and ofc, what can i do but think of you??
u + me = <3: guys the electric guitar (i think that’s what it is..) in the beginning is sooo cute!! thats partly the reason i fell in love with this song. the little guitar melody is just so cute and i feel like im frolicking through a downtown city in a maxi skirt and i have a really big crush on someone. actually, the whole song feels like that. lyrics are all so cute and 10/10 i just love it. “tell me yet again bout when we met and what you thought of me” and ofc “and to that i say F*CK IT WHATEVERRR (whateveeeerr!!!)” SO ADDICTING I LOVE THIS SONGNGNGNGNG
expectations: i know we ALL know this song is an absolute bop. i don’t gotta talk abt it much, it’s just so lalalala cute. yk? first of all, vodka cranberry reference, we all love that. the vocals at the beginning when she goes “i convinced myself he WA-A-AS!” is addictive i love singing that part smm. i love the “took a couple moooonths (took a couple monthsss)”. the little flat we get when she sings “i am so evoolvedd” scratches my brainnn. i havent heard anyone say this, but the bridge where its like “shes got - BIG - expecTAtions - she’s got REAL big EX-PEC-TA-TIONS” is sooo busy woman-sabrina carpenter. “busy woman - all the time - busy woman” and also the vocals are just sooo chappell roan. she really brought all the pop girls into this song and i love
production: this album has really cute/really heartbreaking production which i guess is just portraying the album! girl so in love.. you seem pretty sad.. etc etc we all get it. her producers really did a phenomenal job on this project. the production just matches the songs energy and feelings perfectlyyy
lyrics: lyrics are just cutey patootie everything nice. olivia and that damn bed tho lol. they aren’t obviously like 10/10 lyrics, but i kind of like that about it bc it just seems light and fun and airy, except when we get to you seem pretty sad half.. thats a different story..
overall rating: 9.8/10
absoluuuuuuuuutely love it. definitely my fav olivia album, and before you come at me, yes ive been here since sour. i can recognize the iconic-ness of sour and guts, but this album is really just my cup of tea and i really enjoyed it !!
